My husband was not satisfied with the results. He was told by Auto Zone from the diagnostic they did that there was an apparent emissions leak, and that we would probably be told by AutoWorks that it was simply a loose gas cap, which I was told that when I took the vehicle all the way back to Payson. The fact that AutoWorks is not open on the weekends made it impossible for my husband to take the vehicle in and deal with the issue, as like most people, he works during the week. We will be trusting our future auto maintenance needs to a local business in Salt Lake that has more flexible hours.

Hi Laurie- Sorry we work the same hours as your husband. Have him call me on lunch and I would be happy to explain our findings. If the check engine has come back on, we need to dig a little deeper into the problem. If not, it is understandable as autozone employees don't know anything about diagnosing actual problems. They can read a code and guess a lot and sell you some cheap parts that they hope will fix your car, but as any professional diagnostic shop in your area can tell you, autozone's code reader is not a real diagnostic for specific problems. Your car had a code for an evaporative system leak which can be anything from a bad seal on the cap, to leaking hoses, to stuck purge or vent solenoids, to cracked plastic lines that go from the fuel tank clear up to the engine compartment, to a leaky tank and many other things. We used a scanner that communicates with your on-board computer and performed actual functional tests on the evaporative system. We can command the computer to run a leak test while the car is running in the shop bay. It did and it passed the leak test 100%. That leaves 2 possibilities: Either there was a leak that is no longer there, (like a gas cap not sealing tightly for a little while) -or- There is a intermittent problem.(like a sticking valve or solenoid) So- as I told you in the shop and will happily explain to your husband, we could not find a leak so suspected a loose or leaky seal on the gas cap at some point, (the seal looked fine by the way) Or would need to dig into it deeper if the light came back on, indicating an intermittent problem. I hope that makes sense. Just let me know if we need to dig into it any further. I can arrange for a loaner car so that you are not inconvenienced coming in during normal business hours, Mon-Fri. 8am-6pm. Thanks- Shaun Martin -Owner - AutoWorks Car Care
